The Old Town area has many cozy hotels with a medieval atmosphere. You could wake up at a hotel while listening to the sound of horse-drawn carriages’ footsteps.
On the other hand, the Krakow Central Station area has good access. Bus stops for Auschwitz and the Wieliczka Salt Mine are close by, so it is convenient for tourists who travel outside of city center.
Hotels in the old town are often quite old, no elevators, poor soundproofing. (Old town is laud until midnight…) If you prefer a quiet and modern hotel, you should better to choose the central station area.

The most major hotel booking site in Poland is Booking.com. I use Booking.com almost 100% of the time to book my hotels! The website is easy to use, and there are also member discounts.
There are ‘almost’ no problems with reservations or payments. I had a problem ONLY ONCE. During the payment, my Internet was suddenly off-line and the screen froze. After recovery I clicked the payment button again, but it resulted in a double payment….
Fortunately, it was refunded later! I felt their support was good.
